The Princess of Wales's Yearly Yuletide Service of Carols Spotlights Charity Helpers
Her Royal Highness has organised her customary festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.
The large audience will hear a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.
Focusing on Love and Generosity
The focus of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.
Attending the event are a couple named the Cordiners, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, a support fund, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a message before the festive gathering.
Carefully Paced Reappearance
The royal has been undertaking her own gradual return to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her initial major address in two years, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".
Music and Opportunity
Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians backed by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to musical tuition.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the trust, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at the concert.
"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now a student at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.
A Family Affair
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Within the audience will be representatives of different generations.
That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for local food charities.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a Cornish sea shanty group, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
