Ukraine has announced the commencement of large-scale manufacturing for a new locally engineered interceptor drone to enhance its air defences. The first three manufacturers have started manufacturing, with 11 more preparing to establish production lines, Ukrainian military officials stated this past Friday.

Advanced 'Octopus' System Tested in Combat Situations

These UAVs utilize a domestically developed system known as “Octopus” designed to neutralize Iranian-made drones. This technology underwent testing in combat and proved effective “at night, amid electronic warfare and at low altitudes,” officials confirmed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy established an ambitious goal of producing as many as 1,000 defensive drones each day.

Recent Assault on Kyiv Described as Deliberate

The Ukrainian president characterized Russia’s latest attack on Ukraine as “intentional, calculated and brutal” following six people lost their lives and many others wounded in a wave of night-time strikes across Kyiv. Air raid sirens sounded in the capital just after 12 AM on Friday, with Shahed drones quickly detected overhead and intensive defensive fire from Ukraine's aerial protection units.

The president stated the nation was hit by 430 drones and multiple missiles. Those killed were at home in an apartment building on the capital's left bank when it was hit. Numerous of other buildings sustained damage, including the diplomatic mission of Azerbaijan.

International Protest After Diplomatic Compound Damage

The Azerbaijani government said it delivered a strong protest to Moscow's diplomatic representative this past Friday following the embassy damage. Moscow's military were firing 200 to 250 aerial bombs daily, with last month’s average daily usage standing at approximately 170, according to official military statistics.

Ukrainian Strikes Focus on Moscow's Oil Facilities

Moscow's maritime terminal of Novorossiysk halted for a period oil exports this past Friday – representing 2% of global supply – after a strike by Ukrainian forces. Military commanders in Kyiv said its forces had launched Neptune cruise missiles and used various types of attack UAVs in the assault against Novorossiysk “as part of operations to reduce the strategic capabilities of the invading force.”

Ukrainian forces separately targeted an oil refinery in the Saratov area and a fuel storage facility in nearby Engels overnight.

International Sanctions Impact Moscow's Energy Company

The number two oil producer Lukoil said this past Friday it is negotiating with potential buyers concerning its foreign assets after last month’s restrictions from the UK and the US and failure of an agreement with commodity trader Gunvor. “Final arrangements will be announced once the final agreements have been reached and required authorizations have been obtained,” the company commented.

Ukrainian President Schedules Visit to Spain

Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit the city of Madrid, the Spanish capital, on Tuesday to meet with parliament members following his trip to France, Spanish parliamentary officials disclosed. Zelenskyy will convene with representatives from all houses of parliament during his visit, an official announcement said.
